ISES Distinguished Lecturers
Dr. Jack Spengler (Term 2009-2011)
Dr. Jack Spengler has been a leading scholar for decades in the field of exposure science, with particular emphasis on issues of indoor air quality. He was one of the founding members of ISEA, was one of the first recipients of the Wesolowski Award from ISEA, has served on numerous national and international committees addressing indoor air pollution, and has been one of the most consistent and active voices regarding the importance of considering air quality in the design of buildings. He has published hundreds of articles related to both exposure assessment and public health implications. More recently, Jack has been focused on topics of sustainability and urban design, and continues to address these significant environmental problems with an eye toward minimizing personal exposures to contaminants.
Beyond his reputation as a scholar, Jack has been consistently involved with teaching and other outreach efforts. He both instructs graduate students at Harvard School of Public Health and directs a highly subscribed continuing education master’s program through Harvard University Extension School. The latter program includes an active distance learning module, which is one of Jack’s passions. We hope that Jack will bring to the Distinguished Lecturer position not only his expertise and interests in exposure science, but also his innovative ideas about outreach and communication.
